HOUSE RULES

Kia Orana:

Welcome to the Paradise Inn. This is a little information that you might find useful. "House Rules"

We'll start from the beginning. You are staying in a very historic building which in its heyday was the largest dance hall in the South Pacific. The renovation took over one year along with a lot of blood sweat and tears to try to retain a true South Pacific atmosphere. Bearing that in mind, you must (at least, I hope) appreciate that the building has a few idiosyncrasies which I will get into later, but first: We are a motel - not a hotel - or a restaurant. There is a grocery in front of the Paradise that sells almost everything. Home Market stays open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.. Sunday hours are from around 7:00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. and then again from 5:30 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Church begins at 10:00 a.m. Sundays. The laundry is behind the office. Just take it to the head housekeeper with a smile and she'll have it washed, dried and folded real quick. $7.00 per load. If you want to iron anything you're welcome to use the iron and board - best time to iron is after 3.00 p.m. in the laundry room.

Now lets talk about the rooms: They are all equipped with instant gas water heaters which are automatic. All you have to do is turn on the tap. They are adjusted for our water pressure so please don't play with the knobs on the machine in the toilet area. When you use the shower, turn the hot water on first, then add the cold water. If there is no hot water, come and get me. We've either run out of gas or the pilot light is out. The rooms also have smoke alarms - if you burn the toast, the alarm will go off. So turn on the fan, then go upstairs with a towel and fan the small round unit in the ceiling. If you really have a fire, there is a fire extinguisher under the bathroom counter.

Now about the idiosyncrasies: When the weather is wet most of the room doors stick, except Room 2, it sticks all the time. If you are in a room on the west side, Rooms 1 to 7, you will see an old packing shed through the trellis. This is now a workout gym. The boys lift weights (and drop them) usually at lunch time and then again after work, 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. or so. If you are on the east side of Paradise, Rooms 8 to 14, through the trellis is Ngati's house. Sometimes they come home very late singing, sometimes they get up very early to go fishing. In anyevent, they'll wake you up, so you may as well go fishing with them. Justask them. However, if that doesn't wake you up, I'm sure the roosters, dogsor babies will. Try to think of it as a cultural experience.

Now we do have a bar for the guests only. We call it the living room. Beer and wine is $2.50, write it down in the book on the counter and help yourself. You can also make coffee or tea behind the bar - that's free. We have no bar staff so everyone cleans up after themselves. Thanks. The telephone is behind the bar also, 20 cents for local calls. See us for long distance calls. The ice machine is located there too, so don't use the little ice trays in your room, they're hopeless. The bananas and other fruit on the bar are free, help yourself.

Upstairs of the living room is the library, television and video, so make yourselves at home. There are several video rental shops in town where you can select a movie for $5 or $6. On the patio we have a gas barbecue that you can use anytime. If you need assistance turning it on, just ask (the automatic starters don't work anymore). The manager lives above the barbie so don't forget to turn it off.

We also have a great night lady, she works from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. If you need anything or can't sleep and want to talk to someone, she's here six nights a week. So that's that. If you need anything or have any questions, don't hesitate, just ask. And thanks for staying with us. Regards from all of us at Paradise .

Dianne , Shanon, and Mata!!!

P.S. We also have two house cats named - Trouble . One is black with a little white, the other is a fat ginger one. They will come to visit you and act like they own the place, so don't let them push you around, especially the black one. And if you feed them any scraps, make them sit first .
